I thought this was a nice place to eat. I rarely go out to eat by myself, but I felt welcomed by everyone and well it was my birthday (which I may have mentioned once or twice when I got there :) ) anyway...The manager even came to say hi and wish me a happy birthday, nice touch. A different take on bread was a little bowl of lentils, I liked it for the spice in it, nice change of pace from plain olive oil or butter. For food, I had the burrata and fried artichokes which was good. Then for main I had the Paccheri con Crema di Pistacchio e Salsiccia - very good, sausage, pistachios, creamy sauce...I don't eat pasta like this often but it was definitely worth the calories. And then a pistachio tart for dessert and they also brought me a cannoli with a candle - I thought it was a nice touch first the pistachio tart - which I was so excited to eat I forgot to take a pic but very good, sweet, but I love pistachios so it was a great end to the meal. The cannoli was good too, but I was so full I could only eat a little of it, but I definitely liked the flavor. I enjoyed my meal and would come back if I happen to be working in that area again.
Il Corso is a pleasant neighborhood Italian restaurant with solid food and a very good selection of wine. It's predominantly southern Italian cuisine. 30 years and counting so you know they are doing some things well. Lots of regulars who the servers seem to greet by name. There are maybe 20 tables spread across two rooms separated by the kitchen and prep area. The relatively small spaces with low ceilings means things can get loud and hard to hear your dining companions. On to the food... Avocado e Carciofini: Smashed avocado mixed with artichokes hearts topped with slices of parmigiana cheese. I've never seen this on a menu before. It was delicious and somewhat addicting. Paccheri con Crema di Pistacchio e Salsiccia: sweet sausage are served with tube pasta and coated with a mascarpone & pistachio cream. A rich dish- a little too rich. We ate it all but probably shouldn't have. Fettuccine con Funghi e Prosciutto: Mushrooms and prosciutto with a truffle cream sauce. Not too creamy. Definitely worth repeating. You can substitute gluten free or whole wheat pasta in any dish for an additional charge. With so many Italian restaurants in NYC, it's hard to justify coming from across town but I'd definitely come back if I was staying nearby.
Phenomenal spot for a nice Italian dinner. I'll start with I'm not Italian and I am a tourist here so that may mean much or nothing for those reviewing this but it is a nice small restaurant with a great menu. Personally I had the Squid ink risotto with scallops and it was amazing.
The food here was top notch! Service was great! It's small inside but that's NYC for ya!!! Low key place and close to Broadway shows!
Having just arrived in NYC, we started scouring various reservations apps for a place to have dinner. We found Il Corso had availability along with great reviews, and further research convinced us this was the place to go. It turned out to be a great start to our trip, and one of the best meals we had during our visit! A long and narrow space nestled among other businesses along 55th, we were kindly and promptly seated. It was surprisingly full for a Monday night. This isn't a place for "Americanized" Italian fare. You won't find chicken parm on this menu, which was a wonderful feature of the menu since my husband and I have both lived in Europe and prefer more authentic Italian cuisine. We chose the croquettes and a salad to start. The croquettes had a perfectly light and crispy exterior, and a pillowy flavorful interior. My husband chose the lasagne all'Emilliana, different from American style lasagne with its wonderfully creamy bechamel layer. I chose the paccheri con Crema di Pistacchio e Salsiccia- a large tubular pasta with crumbles of sweet Italian sausage and creamy mascarpone and pistachio sauce. There's nothing similar to compare this dish to, but it was absolutely exquisite! It's one of those dishes that you won't easily forget! There were so many dishes on the menu that we wanted to try, and we were very happy with the dishes we ended up choosing. The bread service is initially complimentary and comes with a pleasant dip of olive oil, garlic, and lentils! Again, not typical of an Italian restaurant in the US, but delicious.. and we couldn't stop spooning lentils over the warm, crusty bread. So good! There's an additional charge for extra bread, which is probably a good thing because you'll want to keep eating bread and lentils otherwise! The only, and very slightly, disappointing things were the desserts we chose. Don't get me wrong, they were beautiful and delicious, but they were served far too hot. The ice cream on top was already melting when they arrived at the table, but breaking into the hot exterior and releasing more heat turned it into a soupy, sloppy mess. The flavor was still fabulous, but this soupy texture didn't allow for appreciating its individual components. Had it been warm and not piping hot, it would have been perfect! The Chianti Riserva was good and only got better as it breathed. The Peroni was nice and cold. Everything was so good, we considered just eating there every night, but we decided we should see what else the city had to offer! Il Corso is already on our list of places to return to the next time we visit!
Lovely little Italian restaurant. Very courteous and attentive staff. Menu was explained well and various options provided. Gets busy pretty quick since it's close to the theater district. Lots of locals seemed to be around which is always a good sign. Our favorite was the Paccheri con Crema di Pistacchio e Salsiccia. So good, very rich and creamy but not heavy!!! Our kid almost it all himself!! Consider reserving a spot, makes your life easier since a lot of restaurants in the big apple are on the smaller size.
This was just a fantastic experience from start to finish. -Cozy and intimate vibes and exactly the kind of little place you'd want to stumble in for a hearty meal and a drink after a day of walking around the cold and busy city. -A+ service. Dining with a toddler in tow can be stressful (esp at a nice place) and the owner just went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. No kids menu but they'll make up anything they can that is kid friendly. Chicken milanese cutlet and fries was perfect for my two year old. The owner even brought out a kid friendly cup and went out of his way to make sure I knew where the changing friendly bathroom was without me having to ask. These little things go a long way. From a tired Mom, thank you. -Excellent pasta. We shared the lobster ravioli as an app which was just outstanding and in the the most creamy and decadent sauce. For mains I tried the meat lasagna and the spaghetti limone. Both were just wonderful. Portions aren't large but you'll definitely leave satisfied, and I suggest ordering an app or so too. -Full bar and an extensive wine list. My aperol spritz hit the spot after a long day. Finding dinner in Manhattan is always overwhelming, so I'm really glad I found Il Corso on Yelp. I don't venture to the city often, but will be sure to come again when I'm back in the area.
By far the best Italian food I've had since traveling to NY. I have been multiple times and now that I know of this place I'll make sure to come every time I visit. Our server Pablo was very knowledgeable of the specials/offers they had for the day, and as well on the regular menu. Thank you Pablo! Our food came out in order right on time. We started off with the croquettes, and the filling was so flavorful while the outside had a nice crunch. 10/10! We both went with pastas (we were craving something starchy after a long day at the zoo) and I couldn't say enough how much I fell in love with these dishes. So delicious!!! My dish had lemon zest and most people would say it's a bit overpowering but i love the taste of lemon. Our waters were never empty! I mean the man would come and fill up our drinks even if we took only one sip. Service on point! It is a smaller restaurant so don't be alarmed when you walk in and the Hoststand is right in front. Not much space to wait inside but make sure to do a reservation so you don't have to wait! We didn't have a reservation but I think we got lucky.
We had an amazing experience with Il Corso this past weekend. What initially was planned to be a dinner for about half our group turned into nearly taking over the entire restaurant. I loved how accommodating Il Corso was from the get-go. Once seated, we enjoyed a selection of appetizers and wine while determining our pasta dishes. While they were all "winners", I loved the Burrata. Portions were more than fair. Like the appetizers, the pasta dishes were all excellent as well. Cacio e Pepe was probably the table favorite, as it comes complete in a cheesebowl! I went with the Fettuccine alla Bolognese and did have food envy. That being said, the fettucine was cooked perfectly and like the apps, the pasta was portions appropriately. We finished with desserts. Them bringing out the dessert tray made picking easier (or harder since they all looked amazing). I went with the flan and did not share. Overall an excellent experience and one I'd be happy to repeat on a future trip to NYC. Check them out!
